Keletso - Klerksdorp

The Klerksdorp satellite office under the guidance of Nhlanhla Thonga, Portfolio Manager, took on the challenge of renovating Keletso Early Learning Centre's  building and upgrading their facilities.

Keletso Centre's  building was heavily damaged by the storm; with the roof taking most of the punishment there was very little left of the building. A local construction firm was contracted by TFMC (SED) to repair the roof, the ceiling and broken windows. The Klerksdorp satellite office team repaired the play canyon and painted the fence.

April 11, 2008 saw the official opening of the newly refurbished Keletso Early Learning Centre and the beginning of a better life for the toddlers at the Centre. Guests from the Department of Education, Early Childhood Development, Department of Health, TFMC and the local construction firm were treated to musical items performed by the toddlers and the teachers. Scrumptious lunch was served, courtesy of TFMC.

Mr Bojosinyane, who was one of the guest speakers, thanked TFMC on behalf of the Education Department. He went on to highlight the importance of pre-schools within communities, ‚Early Childhood Development Centres play a critical role in preparing learners for school and it is at this level that the culture of learning is introduced to learners. He informed all present that in the near future, primary schools will not be admitting grade 1 learners who do not attend Early Childhood Centre.

All speakers stressed the importance of Early Childhood Education. The communities should treat Early Childhood Educators as teachers not as caregivers. These Educators are qualified teachers‚ advised Ms Nondumiso Gayiya, Provincial Chairperson of Early Childhood Development.

Anthea Saunders, TFMC Executive, donated teddy bears on behalf of the company.

A child with a good grounding in education holds the key to a future full of possibilities, prosperity and happiness.
Research shows that early learning in particular, lays the foundation for the realisation of a child’s full cognitive, emotional, social and physical potential.

TFMC (Socio-Economic Development) takes this opportunity to thank the pioneers of this project, Nhlanhla Thonga and the Klerksdorp satellite team, for their dedicated efforts in ensuring the success of this initiative.
