TFMC breathes new life into Enkumba Primary
TFMC, South Africa's largest facilities management company and part of Mvelaserve Limited, recently brought smiles to the faces of the young learners at Enkumba Primary School in Bulwer, Pietermaritzburg.
TFMC's Corporate Social Initiatives are mainly focused on education and health and are aimed at giving something back to the communities in which they operate.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma on a nostalgic visit to Enkumba Primary, the school she attended as a child, found the building to be in a terrible state. This prompted her to contact Mvelaserve Limited, indicating that any assistance with repairing the building would be greatly appreciated. The next step was discussions with TFMC's Senior Leadership, soliciting TFMC's help.
TFMC representative visited the site with a group of building contractors to assess the extent of the problem. We realised that there was a lot of work to be done and that the entire building needed an overall revamp, says Maud Poopedi, Head of Corporate Social Initiatives at TFMC.
The total costs amounted to R670 000, with the renovations taking three weeks to complete.
A function was held to mark the re-launch of the Primary School, which saw the representative from the office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, neighbouring school principals, the ward councillor and even the Inkosi (King) and Induna (Chief) of the areas in attendance.
The Induna and Inkosi expressed their gratitude to TFMC, and the school principal could not stop singing the company's praises. Mvelaserve Limited and TFMC are "Skhondlakhondla" (life savers) - this is a very big day for us Mr H.E. Njokwe, Principal of Enkumba Primary, said.
The function ended with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque, marking the success of the project.
Thanks must also go to the community of Enkumba, parents and ex-teachers. This school has seen many high profile individuals in government pass through its doors, including myself, and I am humbled to be associated with companies such as TFMC. I wish Enkumba much growth and success,Minister Dlamini-Zuma's representative said.
Thanks to the timely intervention of the Minister and the generosity of Mvelaserve Limited and TFMC, the successful restoration of Enkumba Primary School has ensured that the children of Bulwer will enjoy many more happy years under its roof.
